How it works
From floor plan to packing list
Open your hall, or draw the room
The template library has residence hall room types you can open in one click, with a page per hall. If yours is not there yet, type in the length and width and place the door and the window.
Set up the furniture the room comes with
Room Tools has a Dorm tab with the standard pieces: dorm bed, loft bed, bunk bed, desk with hutch, desk chair, wardrobe, dresser. Try the bed lofted over the desk, or both beds bunked, and see how much floor you get back.
Add what you are bringing
The catalog has real twin XL beds, mini fridges, microwaves, rugs, lamps and storage with real dimensions and prices. Place them to scale, split the list with your roommate, and buy only what fits.
Roommates
Agree on the layout before you carry anything upstairs
A double or a triple has a handful of layouts that work and many that do not. Because the room and the furniture are true to scale, you can try beds along opposite walls, an L in the corner, or one bed lofted, and see which one leaves a path to the door and room for both desks.
Share the room with a link so your roommate can see the same layout. A free account keeps the room and opens it on your other devices.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free dorm room planner?+
Yes. Cona is free: open a residence hall floor plan or draw your room, arrange the furniture in 3D, and see what fits. There are no credits, no watermarks and no account needed to start.
Which dorms have ready-made floor plans?+
The template library starts with the University of Washington residence halls, one page per hall, and more universities are being added. Any other room can be drawn in a couple of minutes from its length and width.
Can I try a lofted or bunked bed?+
Yes. The Dorm tab in Room Tools has a dorm bed, a loft bed and a bunk bed, along with a desk with hutch, desk chair, wardrobe and dresser. They are built-in pieces for planning, not products for sale.
Will a mini fridge, a futon or a rug fit?+
Place it and see. Catalog items are real products at the retailer's dimensions, and the room is drawn to yours, so what fits on screen fits in the room.
Does it work on a phone?+
Yes. Cona runs in the browser on iPhone and Android, with nothing to install.
